While we were driving, I gazed upon the beauty of the sunrise. I felt so much hope that today will be a blessed day for me and Raphael. We were talking stories inside the car and laughing. When we got to the hospital, Emily just wanted to wait inside the car and Raphael took me in. We went inside the medical center and behind us was my surgeon Dr. Sloane Berger-Chen. She was very calm and nice to us.
When we went inside the suite, I signed some consent papers and filled out some paper works and was asked to wait. I got called inside and so Raphael said goodbye to me and kissed me. As I went inside the surgery center, I was asked to change into the hospital gown and was also asked to say in my own words the procedure that Dr. Berger-Chen is going to do.
I was then asked to lay down on the bed. The nurses were very nice to me and made me comfortable since I've told them that it was my first time going into surgery. They covered me up with a warm blanket and put socks on me. One of the nurses told me that he is going to put an IV in my hand. I started to freak out when I saw the needles. He said that he is going to numb my hand so I won't feel the pain. However, the numbing injection was soooooo painful that I actually screamed. When he was done with it, he put the IV in my hand and started putting tape on it so it will be secured. The other nurse put some wires inside my body to monitor my blood pressure and heart rate.
I had to wait for a few minutes and so one of the nurses gave me a magazine to read. It was very hard for me to hold the magazine because of the IV in my right hand. Dr. Berger-Chen visited me before the surgery to ask me how I am. The nurses asked me to state in my own words again what the surgery will be all about and I said that Dr. Berger-Chen will be doing a surgery to take off the extra lining in my uterus and take a sample for labs. After all the paperworks and necessary things were accomplished...IT WAS TIME! My last memory before the surgery were a nurse injected something in my IV to make me comfortable and my bed was being pushed to the operating room and I blacked out.
I woke up groggy and sleepy. The nurse who was sitting next to my bed helped me with the pain I felt by making me drink 7up and oral medications. I was too drugged to move or to talk. However, I did asked if my husband was there and the nurse said he was coming. I was just sleepy and drowsy. The nurse was asking if I wanted to eat a cracker and I said no since I was not hungry. A few minutes after I woke up Raphael came inside and he helped me change into my regular clothes. I was so happy he was there and I felt safe again.
I wanted to go to work but I didn't know that when you are under anesthesia that you will be drowsy, sleepy, and just drugged almost the whole day. Raphael called my work and said that I just got out of surgery and won't be able to work. The nurse got a wheelchair for me and she pushed me to the parking lot to make sure someone will be driving me home.
Emily was so nice to pick me up. I was sleepy the whole ride home. Raphael bought me chicken nuggets and chocolate shake but it still didn't wake me up. When we got home, Raphael helped me up and we went straight to the bed so that I could lay down and get more rest. Raphael went to class and when he came back I was still asleep but he gets up every time I need to take my medicine.
I am so grateful that the operation was a success and that I heard I did well. I am so blessed to have wonderful neighbors like Emily who willingly drove me back and forth. I am so grateful for my loving husband for taking care of me and for never leaving my side. This day was filled with tender mercies from the Lord.
