A Year Older: "Twenty-Four"

When I was in my teenage years, I used to have this perception that when I reach my early 20's, by now, I have already achieved and accomplished the things that I want to do in my life. Apparently, I am still far from some of it. I did check some major boxes like getting married, finishing college, and getting into the company that I want to work in.
Few weeks ago, as I was viewing some of my friends' Facebook account, I was a little bit jealous of them. They have achieved so much and are experiencing some of my life-long dreams. I stopped and reflected on what I have achieved. I can't say that I am not happy with my journey and the major goals that I've achieved. C'mon! I finished college and I'm married :D Can I get an Amen???

I'm such a cute baby!

Nevertheless, I still stopped and reflected. I have so many dreams that I STILL want to achieve. I could have been a great figure skater at this age but I asked myself why I did not become one? Here's why:
I was 16 when I realized I wanted to be a figure skater.
Despite not having any formal ballet lessons,
I still took some formal lessons and bought my own pair of skates.
I did really well for someone whose 16 years of age and a late bloomer.
Then a lady told me that I won't be as good as the other figure skaters in our class
(if I'm even expecting to be one) because I was
old and, according to her, its already too late for me. I stopped taking lessons
and dropped everything about figure skating.

With my younger brother, Sieg
Few months ago, I re-evaluated myself and I asked myself why I did not become a good figure skater. Why did I quit? Why did I not persevered? Looking back at my life, the "what ifs" made me cry. I am happy and proud of all my major accomplishments, considering that I am 24 years old. However, I know that I still have a lot of goals that needs to be accomplished, dreams to be reached, and potentials to be tapped. So for this blog post, I'd like to share with you some of the lessons that I have reflected on a few weeks before I turned 24.

1. Don't Let Anyone Tell You What You Should and Shouldn't Be

Sometimes when we want to pursue our passion, people will always have something negative to say about it. You'll encounter people that will tell you that you won't make a living out of it. Some would say, "Don't pursue that path, you'll never make it!" Some will pull you down by telling you a million ways to fail at it. But you know what? You know yourself better than anyone in this world! You know your weaknesses and your strengths. You know your potentials and your abilities. You want to be an actor? Take the Theater Arts major! You want to be a director? Pursue a film career! You want to become a professional dancer? Go take dance classes!
You can be whatever you want to be. You can do whatever you want to do. Remember! Whatever road you'll take, make sure you make the best out of it.

2. Invest & Believe In Yourself

Nothing in this life is automatic. You don't wake up one day and automatically become a professional dancer or a photographer. You have to invest in yourself. Take classes that will allow you to learn, grow, and enhance your skills. Look for resources that will improve what you already have. Do not make excuses such as time and money. The only gap that you will have between you and your dreams are your doubts.
Don't ever second guess yourself! Believe in yourself! I have seen the power and will that comes out when we choose to believe in ourselves. We can do extraordinary things. We can soar as high as an eagle could. Believing in ourselves gives us the motivation to push ourselves to achieve whatever we want to achieve. The moment you stop believing in yourself is the moment you give up on your dreams.

3. Never Stop Dreaming

When we age, we tend to stop dreaming. I guess, sometimes we think that we are too old to dream. If you've experienced this or currently experiencing this, its okay you're not alone. I, too, am experiencing such fever. Lol! We stop dreaming because we think that we can't dream anymore. But, we're all wrong when we look at that kind of perspective. We can still do a lot of things. You dream about becoming a chef? There are so many programs that offer short courses about cooking and baking. You dream about becoming a photographer? There are so many tutorials and free online classes that you can participate in over the internet.
You haven't finished college? Go, study! Let's stop making excuses! Aren't we tired of making them? Gosh! I want to learn to dance again!! I am craving for the moment to do what I love the most, dancing! I am so happy say that I will be taking classes with G-Force Official!! Woooop! Wooooop! When you decide that you will never stop dreaming, that's the moment you start living! Cheers to all of us dreamers!!

Imagine my happiness when I finally got to enter the famous California Disneyland
4. Live in the Moment

A couple of days ago, before I turned twenty-four, Rap and I went to Cebu. We went around Cebu City and visited the historical sites. I felt like I've touched a huge part of my ancestors history. I love traveling with Rap and my family. I am grateful that I have this chance to enjoy life and to live it. Rap and I vowed to each other that we will live in the moment. Yes, we're still going to think about the future BUT, we will not worry about it as much as we did before.
Sometimes the challenges we encounter in life stops us from being grateful for what we have in the moment. We ignore what we have today and instead worry and plan for tomorrow. What we forget is that life is too short. We'll wake up one day and look in the mirror and say, "Where did time go?" I hate when that happens! Lol! Now that I'm 24, I will live more, travel more, love more, care more, share more, pray more, and many more! hahahaha (What the heck?! btw, it was a joke) hahahah
Let's live in the moment! When we get carried away with life's challenges, remember to pause and give thanks to our Heavenly Father for another day, another moment to live, and another chance to be better!

You're the best gift I've ever received. Your love have strengthened me throughout all the years. You're my hero and my best friend. You never failed to make me happy. I love you with all my heart sweetheart. You are my heart and soul.
Thank you ya'll for all your birthday greetings! I am sending my love to all my friends and family around the world. I love you all!! Yours truly, Pateet :)
